WHSmith Parcel Not Delivered or Refund Refused? UK Guide

WHSmith's online business is run separately from its stores and ships through parcel couriers. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 makes WHSmith responsible until the goods reach your hands, so a missing order is not something the store or the courier has to be chased for.

    Who delivers your WHSmith order?

WHSmith typically uses: Royal Mail, Evri, Yodel, Click and Collect (in-store). The exact courier varies by region, order size, and delivery option.

Whichever courier handled your parcel, your contract is with WHSmith, not the courier. Section 29 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 puts the obligation on WHSmith to deliver into your physical possession.

    WHSmith delivery FAQs

Is WHSmith legally responsible for a missing parcel?

Yes. Under Section 29 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the retailer (WHSmith) is responsible for the goods until you take physical possession. WHSmith cannot redirect you to the courier because your contract is with WHSmith, not the courier.

How long does WHSmith have to refund me?

Under Consumer Contracts Regulations, refunds are due within 14 days of cancellation. For damaged goods, a short-term right to reject and full refund applies within 30 days under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Should I email the WHSmith store or the online team about a missing parcel?

The online team, at help@online.whsmith.co.uk. Stores cannot see online order records, so writing to the wrong address usually just costs you a few days.

My WHSmith parcel arrived damaged in the post. What do I ask for?

Within 30 days you have the short-term right to reject under Section 20 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for a full refund. Photograph the packaging and the goods together before you unpack further.

WHSmith says Royal Mail must investigate first. Do I have to wait?

You should allow a reasonable period, but the investigation is WHSmith's to run, not yours. Set a written deadline and say you will escalate to your card provider if it passes.
